It is our mission to research, archive, and disseminate the stories of all the people in our region who have engaged in wars between 1700 and the present day. Studying these stories will help us remember the sacrifices people have made, and it will enable us to come to terms with the ways in which wars have changed the lives of Tennesseans.
The Center conducts oral histories with veterans to record their stories. It also sends students out to local organizations such as the East Tennessee Historical Society to do archival research into past conflicts. The Center offers students one of the only internship programs in the Department of History.
